April 20 - 22, 2009 – Mary Ellen Krantz will be here to teach 3 classes and present a program. Twenty years of experience teaching computer technologies provided her with an understanding of how PCs, printers, scanners and digital cameras could blend together in the process of creating a quilt. Mary Ellen’s classes provide an opportunity to try out these tools and the latest quilting software under the guidance of a creative and patient teacher. She brings the software and the printers… in some classes you need a lap-top. But not to worry! Two to a computer and we have access to some ‘loaners’. Digital Photography, Printing and Quiltmaking
A workshop for those who want to learn the newest techniques for printing photos and other images onto fabric. We’ll begin with pictures of your favorite things – flowers, people, landscapes, animals, sunsets
- images that you might want to incorporate into a quilt or fiber art project. Learn the role that scanners, digital cameras, photo software and printers play in the process of creating fabric. Explore the key concepts of image editing software (Paint Shop Pro Photo or Photoshop
Elements) to enhance your photos and prepare them for printing on fabric. Use the latest products to make your fabric images soft, colorful, washable, and lightfast. This is a no-sewing workshop for those who want to make unique and personal fabric pieces to incorporate into their quilts.
Students do not need to bring any computer equipment for this class!

Digital Art for Beginners and Beyond
Explore the features of photo editing software like Paint Shop Pro Photo or Photoshop Elements that quilters find most useful and most fun! Learn to crop, re-size, sharpen, and edit photographs in preparation for printing on fabric. Learn about layers, selection and color tools, and special effects to create works of art that you can include in your quilts. Learn to “paint” your own pictures for later fabric printing.
This class is designed to help you develop your understanding, skill and confidence in working with images on the computer.
This is a hands-on computer class! Two students may share a computer.
Trial software provided.
